Introduction

Adobe released feature releases 2024.5.0 for Adobe Experience Manager Sites and Assets on June 07, 2024. Here are 5 highlights from the release we thought interesting, and our take on using some important GA, Pre-release, or Early Adopter features.

1. Integration of Translation Events- Sites (Cloud Service)

AEM's Multi Site Manager (MSM), Live Copy, and built-in translation workflow integration now bring more power and flexibility to your content localization effort.

Once AEM connects to external translation applications, this feature allows you to manage the translation workflows from within AEM itself. Important workflow stages and action are now designed to trigger events (which you subscribe to) to track the process steps and states of the external application.

Events get triggered for jobs like Translation Job Creation, Start and Completion of Content Addition and Deletion, Committing for translation, and Submission for review.

2. Realtime Use Monitoring (RUM) is Now Available Generally (GA)- Sites

AEM's Realtime Use Monitoring Service (RUMS) captures, analyzes, and measures to understand the nature of user engagement with AEM Sites in real-time. It is available as a General Release now for all AEM Cloud users (of version 2024.5.16461 and above) without any additional integration steps.

The service offers insights on page performance by collecting metrics on the number of clicks, page views, referrer, and contextual checkpoints, Core Web Vitals (CWV) (except First Contentful Print (FCP)), conversions, and customer journey maps.

The RUM service does not collect any PII data or client-side state or ID, such as cookies or localStorage, sessionStorage, to collect usage metrics. There is no "fingerprinting" of devices or individuals via their IP address, User Agent string, or any other data while capturing sampled data.

However,

The important limitations are that the RUM service is incapable of collecting user engagement metrics if the user has an activity blocker installed. Also, unlike traditional web analytics practice of measuring every user engagement, AEM's RUM service samples the metrics (1 in 100 visitors, or 1 in 50 visitors).

3. Quick Publishing—AEM Assets

The Admin view now supports both WebM and MP4 as output formats.

On the other hand, you no longer need the Admin View to quick-publish digital assets to AEM and Dynamic Media using the Quick Publish Wizard. The workflow is optimized further, so you publish right from the Assets View interface, while you search, browse, update, or upload digital content.

However,

Publishing from Asset View has a few visualizations and functional limitations.

  1. You do not get a page to view all published assets.
  2. Neither do you see the endpoints where the Quick Publishing Wizard has put the assets.
  3. Once in the Quick Publishing Wizard, you can not add or delete assets.
  4. Or copy-paste asset-level Dynamic URLs of assets published to Dynamic Media.

4. "Save as Draft" - AEM Adaptive Forms Pre-Release

This update previews some interesting pre-release features of AEM Forms, such as the basic but so far overlooked ability of the Form Author to review the form before submission, and the user now capable of saving an incomplete form as "Draft", to come back later and resume from where it was left off.

5. CAPTCHA Options on Adaptive Forms –

Among the early adopter features of AEM Forms are a bouquet of CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) methods. Try any or all of the following bot protection methods to pick the one that suits the requirements of your Adaptive AEM Forms best (cloud only, not offline) – Cloudflare Turnstile, hCaptcha, and Google reCAPTCHA.

Interestingly, you can set rules in the AEM Rule Editor as the conditions when the CAPTCHA will appear. For example, the CAPTCHA pops-up if there are more than 3 revisions to the address field. Or when order value goes beyond a threshold amount.

However,

  1. Currently, AEM supports only v2 and Enterprise versions of Google reCAPTCHA.
  2. The CAPTCHA expires in about a minute. We recommend placing the CAPTCHA just below the final form "Submit" and "Save Draft" buttons.
  3. Also, AEM supports only one CAPTCHA method at a time, across all AEM Sites irrespective of language or location.

Finally

Every new feature comes with a few limitations and constraints. But taking an overall digital impact perspective to optimize user experiences across all digital properties and devices overcomes the limitations and lifts conversions.
